During the past 5 years, I surveyed many earphones in order to listen classical music, such as “AKG”, “AUDIO-TECHNICA”, “DENON”, “Sennheiser”, “SHURE”, “Ultimate Ears”…etc, I looked around these earphones again and again, and they upgrade continuous, but I still didn’t buy any professional earphone before. Until recently I found a cheap “SHURE SE315” on PChome eBay, and I read some reviews about it, then I decide to buy it– this is my first professional earphone.
Shure includes a nylon, zippered carrying case with a mesh pocket and plenty of room for the headphones and accessories. Also included are a cleaning tool for de-gunking the SE315’s nozzles, as well as a variety of eartips. The SE315 includes a pair of triple-flange, silicone-rubber tips, as well as a pair of cylindrical, yellow-coarse-foam tips.
The SE315s are designed for maximum sound isolation. To achieve this they come with a variety of foam and rubber sleeves that should fit most ear types. Once you get used to them you realize just how snug they are; and instantly you can – or cannot rather – hear the isolation in action. External noise is dramatically reduced in both directions, meaning a great reduction in tinny, commuter annoying, emissions as well as bright clear audio.
Heavy duty cabling makes these feel instantly much more substantial and durable, although the cable is a fair bit longer than standard. This will benefit some users, but at the gym there was the occasional worry that it might catch on something, resulting in a painful, swift extraction. BTW, the SE315’s removable cable enables an easy upgrade to headset functionality.
In practice, the SE315s sound very good. Treble was crisp and clear but not harsh, and midrange was full and detailed. The sound is pretty well balanced across the spectrum, with perhaps a slight leaning towards the high end, although the mids are strong and the bass lacked the presence.
If the SE315 fits your budget, and you’re not too picky about bass quantity, you’ll surely find its performance very satisfying.
